We are keeping Discovery Teaching free and accessible to everyone for the 2020-21 academic year, your donation and support will allow us to achieve this goal. As we are increasingly having to support more users and development work, funding is needed for server costs, application development, and miscellenous supplies and cloud services.

Designed to facilitate Computer-Supported Agile Pedagogy!

Agility In Pedagogy: in the classroom an instructor can use formative assessment, students’ feedback and forum discussions to assess learning and issues, and then appropriately cater optimal instructional activities to the learning objectives and observed needs of the students.

Discovery Teaching has user accounts and semester courses just as in Moodle, Latte or Blackboard. The application layout is roughly: User > Courses enrolled in > Class Meetings > Activities > Interactive Tools.

Intuitive Design

Allows students to monitor, manage and report in real-time their affective and cognitive states in the classroom. The instructor’s Feedback view shows a pie chart and timeline plots of the real-time aggregate feedback data.

Affective & Cognitive Feedback

A supervised back-channel discussion forum where students can create posts on questions and other topics and have them answered by other students, TAs and the instructor. Especially great for large, interactive, and international/diverse classes.

Forum

A clicker functionality for polling and (formative) assessment activities in the classroom - can also be used for summative assessments such as homework, quizzes and exams.

Questions

A clicker tool for group-based collaborative/cooperative (Think/Pair/Share) assessment.

GroupWork

Stats pages at the course, class-meeting and activity levels - providing aggregate data for students’ participation, detailed attendance and performance.

Statistics & Aanalytics

Students can take personal notes during activities. Notes are aggregated and managed at the Class Meeting and Course levels.

Notes

An add-on to the Questions tool. Allows students to review the correctness and leave comments to peers' answers in a way that engages students, trains better answers, and crowd-sources grading data for the teacher.

Peer Grading

A clicker functionality for formative assessment activities in the classroom - can also be used for summative assessment in homework, quizzes and exams.
